Kiwi internships for Danish journalism students

AUT is working with the Danish School of Media and Journalism (DMJX) to arrange internships in New Zealand for Danish students.

Following the success of the current Inclusive Journalism Initiative, DMJX tutor Pia Færing says both parties are keen to work together more closely.

“Now we want to extend this cooperation with some of our students going into internships in your beautiful country afterwards,” she says.

Under the IJI programme, Danish students have been coming to AUT as part of their student exchange. But the new proposal would also see them come here to complete internships in the New Zealand media industry.

Færing says internships are a key part of the Danish students’ education.

“Danish students do 18 months of paid internship during their four-year education,” she says. “When the internship is done abroad they can get an allowance from the (Danish) government.”

AUT International Programmes manager Kenneth Holt is now working with Færing on the finer details of how the new exchange will work.

At this stage it’s hoped that one or two Danish students will be able to come to New Zealand each year for an internship.
